If there’s one thing we know about leopard print, it’s that it never goes out of style. Much like spots and stripes before it, leopard print has become a permanent part of our wardrobes. What was once touted as the daring fashion choice is now the new neutral. Forget keeping things simple with black, beige or pastels, pair your favourites with all things leopard.
Pair it With Classic Patterns
When people say that leopard print has joined the stripe among the ranks of our favourite patterns, they weren’t kidding. So it only seems fair to pair the two. For a great casual autumn look, style a striped Breton top with black jeans and a grey or black wool coat. To liven up the monochrome look, introduce a pair of leopard print ballet flats or slip on canvas shoes.
If you prefer a larger dose of leopard to stripes, try a coloured leopard print top like this sky blue silk Marc Jacobs top. Keep it casual with distressed jeans, an oversized white or cream long cardigan, a tote bag, and navy and white striped ballet flats. This look is great for a casual Friday at the office, simply add a pair of black heels, change out your cardigan for a blazer or a waterfall jacket and you’re ready for after work drinks.
Keep It Layered
Everyone loves the go to preppy look of a long tailed collared shirt or tank under a knit sweater. So why not give it an edge with a print? Step back from the traditional look of a white collared shirt under a patterned or brightly coloured sweater, and add a leopard print blouse instead. Keep the focus on the print by matching it with a white knit sweater, black cuffed jeans, and black heeled boots. Carry on with the overall neutral theme by adding a taupe cross shoulder bag.
Leopard Statement Shoes
Every time autumn and winter rolls around, boots become a footwear staple. Chunky heels, stiletto heels, flat soled, long, short or ankle – you name the style and we (let’s be honest, I) probably own at least one pair of each. My favourite shoe for this season is a leopard print ankle boot in a chunky heel from Django & Juliette via Styletread. Create a weekend ready look by adding a simple white blouse, mid-wash blue skinny jeans, and a simple watch to accessorise.
Put Aside Those Black Pants
Sometimes it feels like the pants selections in our wardrobes are varying shades of blue and black jeans, and work appropriate black or grey dress pants. Inject some life into your pants with a pair of leopard print wool slacks like these from Roberto Cavalli or blue leopard print jeans from Dr Denim. To style, keep it simple with a black or white V-neck top under a blazer. Add some great accessories like a statement necklace and a pop colour clutch.
Leopard Accessories for All
You can’t go wrong with matching leopard print accessories. Get rid of that fringe shoulder bag, put the embellished clutch away, and don’t even think about reaching for that simple brown leather belt. Add a touch of excitement to any outfit with a leopard print handbag or clutch and a matching belt. Use your accessories as the neutral element of your outfit by pairing them with a vibrant purple or cobalt blue blouse, stone wash skinny jeans, and simple boots. Add a hunter vibe to the look by adding a tribal inspired arrow necklace.
