Maybe I am biased because I now have a son of my own, but little guys in button downs are just adorable! The shirt is usually intended for nicer occasions, but the great thing about the button down is that you can dress it up or down. And since most button down shirts come in a variety of colours, patterns and styles, your guy can really have fun with his look by mixing and matching it up. Here are a few ways to do that.
Button Down With a Vest and Shorts
Some button down shirts can be classified as polo style shirts. These are usually available in solid colours, which makes for great accessorizing (yes, even boys can accessorise!). For example, your guy can add a touch of handsome to his look with a button down vest. Use a neutral colour to tone down the pop of colour in the polo if necessary. Throw on some coordinating shorts for your guy and you’ve got a future heartbreaker in the making.
Button Down With Khakis
Like the button down shirt, khakis are a very versatile piece of clothing. So pairing khakis with a button down is the ultimate mix and match ensemble. You can choose a busy print for the shirt and let the khakis do the toning down. You might find a pair that has some added detail like colours or textures, and in moderation, this is no problem. It’s like my husband and me- sometimes a lot of crazy (him) married to a little crazy (me) can be a great combination!
Button Down With Jeans
What is even more versatile than a great pair of khakis? A great pair of jeans. That’s right. Jeans are by far the most versatile article of clothing in a person’s wardrobe. If your guy needs a button down look that is more casual, add a comfortable pair of his favourite denim to the outfit. Add some dressy loafers for a touch of class, or some sandals to get a beach feel.
Button Down With Bermuda Shorts
With summer fresh on the horizon, most little guys are pulling out the summer shorts (if they haven’t already). Sometimes the weather cannot make up its mind, so they pair those shorts with a long sleeved top. The nice thing about a button down is that when the weather is fickle, your guy can unbutton the top when it gets too hot, and button up the button down when the air gets cooler. Of course, nothing will be cooler than him when he wears his button down with his bermudas.
