You know which is one of my favourite summer accessories? That would be a cool pair of sunglasses! With the days being longer we are enjoying countless fun activities taking place right underneath the rays of the sun. It’s because of all those summer, sun-filled events that a pair is a must in everyone’s accessory collection. If I have to be honest, I’m obsessed with sunglasses year round. They just make any ensemble instantly cooler in a way that not a lot of other fashion pieces can. However, having said that, the summer is just the perfect time to treat yourself to a new pair, or several! And let’s be honest, I’m definitely in the several pairs category.
The poor things, we break them, lose them, and still they are one of the most useful and practical accessories to own. They are not only fashionable, they protect your eyes and skin from the sun, helping you maintain younger looking skin for an extra couple of years. So, no matter how many pairs you lose during your vacation this season, sunglasses will always be there for you to keep you looking young and healthy. After a long day outdoors (maybe at the beach?) they also help in maintaining a lighter skin tone around the eyes that makes you look that much more tan and bright eyed. Love it! You’ll find me staring at myself a little bit too much when this happens. It’s like an instant bronze goddess status!
They are also the perfect companion to a low-key makeup look, and by low-key I mean basically non-existent. As in don’t have a lot of time to get ready? Wear a bright lipstick, an amazing pair of sunglasses and no one will ever know that you spent 30 seconds in front of the mirror before heading out the door. Talk about practicality!
Stocking up on classic pairs in neutral colours like black and tortoise is a must for year round sun protection – as usual Ray-Ban is the perfect brand for these foundation products. However, 2014 is all about mirrored sunglasses, and if they have fun colours all the better. Between blue and orange-hued mirrored glasses lies the winning summer 2014 combination, so keep an eye out for these styles. Personally, anything in interesting colours, effects (like ombre), and prints are options to look at and try on to find the perfect one to carry with you all season long. There’s even designs that look like a classic, match-with-everything pair, and then in the inside have fun, colourful prints.
There are also a variety of shapes to choose from when buying that next pair; circle-shaped lenses, cat-eyes, wayfarers, aviators, even heart-shaped lenses. Believe me when I tell you that you don’t have to stick to one. Open your mind, and eyes, to the possibilities and experiment with shapes, even the ones you think might not work for you. This way you’ll be able to have even more fun when adding that pair of cool sunglasses to your next fun in the sun outfit.
Now you might understand my obsession with sunglasses a little bit more. I love this accessory so much that I like to think that I collect them, and I’m already plotting how I’m going to store them in my bedroom in a way that is more of an exhibit of my collection than actual storage.
