I’m a true believer that we can’t possibly live in high heels all of the time. However, when choosing more comfortable shoes to add to our closet, style shouldn’t be something that goes out the window. We still need to look and feel our best fashionable selves no matter how high our shoes have us standing. High-heeled shoes have that magical power of making us feel, not only taller, but sexier and more powerful. Flat shoes don’t necessarily have to mean the opposite. These can also make us feel cool, pretty and in control. Fashion, after all, is about design and how we respond to it. Just like any other art form.
The good news is that we have so many cute options to choose from when it comes to flat shoes. You can go for a classic ballerina flat, or a fun pair of sandals or even a canvas sneaker. There are options in a world full of styles. Today, I’m focusing on the classic Oxford shoe. The Oxford shoe can be classified as a classic style that speaks to a more masculine aesthetic. This is one of the reasons why the Oxford shoe is a great shoe for the office – it was styled off of the traditional men’s work shoe. Reasons why you should purchase a great Oxford shoe don’t end there. For example, this shoe in classic black will look great with a pair of loose pants and blouse for that nine-to-five look. Add a red lip and some gold jewellery and your day will surely start on the right foot.
Although classic in nature, the Oxford shoe can look really fun and modern. A lot of the designs these days have very fun materials, like transparent plastic, and even come in colours like bright blue like these Oxfords from Maison Martin Margiela. Fun colours, and even cut outs like those by Steve Madden make this style look uber modern and fresh. These shoes bring a classic cool vibe to anything you wear, and because they are also available in interesting colour mixes and prints, they are as fun as they are practical. Think of pairing a fun printed pair with a pair of denim shorts and a loose tank in a bright colour tied at the waist for that perfect Saturday brunch look. They can even work as that statement fashion piece of the day! Just throw on your favourite pair of jeans, a white tee, trusty bag and call it an outfit. So, keep an eye out for that classic shoe in interesting designs and colours to achieve that one-two-three and out-the-door perfect casual look.
Aside from wearing Oxford shoes to the office and all those casual days, you can also think of these when you are about to enjoy some higher energy activity. Usually for these type of days you want a shoe that will stay put on your feet, and sometimes even protect them, and these are the perfect allies in these scenarios as they need to be tied. Think of those bike rides around town or that friend’s garden party where music will have you dancing on grass, gravel and anything in between. Rushing to catch the train? An Oxford shoe will most likely not fly off your foot, helping you get to work or to that shopping date with your friend just in time.
That being said, I think Cinderella might not have had so much luck reconnecting with Prince Charming if she had gone for an Oxford shoe that life changing night. You, on the other hand, have your great style and sense of humour to captivate the heart of any guy within your breathing radius.
