Most people, children included, have wardrobes for each season. They have cold weather pieces and hot weather pieces. They probably also have a variety of pieces to wear for certain looks or events. Maybe they have been invited to a BBQ or cookout. Maybe they are headed to an art museum. Maybe they are going to a wedding. Whatever the occasion, there are specific clothes to fit it.
Here are three different styles of dress that your little guy should be prepared for:
This style can be worn for casual days, like on the weekends, or to play dates, or even to school if the dress code allows it. A casual look is one that is easy to throw together and doesn’t take much effort. It’s great for outdoor play or lounging around the house.
To create a casual look for your little man, put together the following pieces:
- Pair of denim jean shorts
- Fun short sleeve graphic tee
- Sporty trainer shoes
For times when the weather is colder, switch out the denim shorts for long jeans, and the short sleeve tee for a long sleeve one. When it comes to socks, choose ankle socks for the warmer seasons, and longer socks for the colder ones.
Street style is just that- style that you wear when you are out and about. This is usually when you have somewhere to go that is more upscale than everyday, but not so formal that you need to dress up. Street style is usually fun and chic, sometimes even a bit quirky.
To create a street style look for your boy, here are some pieces you could use:
- Khaki chino shorts
- Denim button-down
- Knit vest
- Boat shoes
- Fedora hat
These pieces, when combined, create a look that is full of texture, color and detail. It has a vintage vibe and is great for trips to museums or other low key activities. You can easily alter the look for colder weather by wearing khaki pants instead of shorts.
Your little guy will probably not wear formal pieces very often. The times that call for this style of dress are events like weddings, funerals or religious services. However, your guy should still have formal wear staples as part of his wardrobe. These pieces include:
- Suit (pants & jacket)
- Long sleeve button-down
- Dressy tie
- Dress shoes
This is one style that stays consistent regardless of season. A short sleeve button-down is usually too casual for a formal event, so even when the weather is cooler, your boy should stick to a long sleeve shirt. J. Crew is a great place to find formal style pieces.
There are many more styles of dress that your little man may wear, but these are three of the most common. Does your boy have the pieces to create these three looks?
